2023 Dale! Award goes to "Little War” (Argentina)

The 8th Dale! Award (EFAD-CAACI co-development grant) was awarded on 27 September 2023 in San Sebastian to the Argentinian project “Little War" directed by Barbara Sarasola-Day and produced by Pucara Cine, in coproduction with the Netherlands.

The project brings to life the captivating tale of an Anglo-Argentine family, whose resilient and fiercely independent grandmother, Judy, discovers she has very advanced cancer and endeavors to impart her wisdom and heritage to her granddaughter, Barbara. It spotlights the strength of women, spanning generations, and underscores values of love, resilience, and sacrifice. It masterfully bridges the gap between the old and new generation, as it navigates Judy's impending absence and Bárbara's journey to become a strong, independent woman.

The jury was composed of representatives from:

  • EFAD: Solène Tardieu, Advisor to CEO / International Affairs at the German Federal Film Board (FFA);
  • CAACI: Marcios Migliorisi, head of international affairs at the Uruguay film fund;
  • The San Sebastian International Film Festival: Edgard Tenenbaum, producer (company “Tu Vas Voir”).

"The decision to grant "Little War" the Dale Award reflects its outstanding storytelling, powerful character development, and its ability to capture the essence of human resilience in the face of adversity", said Solène Tardieu.
