EFAD members movies awarded at the 81st Venice International Film Festival

The 81st edition of the Venice International Film Festival took place from 28 August to 7 September, with more than fifty movies supported by EFAD members.

This year, more than fifty movies supported by EFAD members were selected for the Venice Film Festival's different sections.

Among these, twelve were awarded during the closing ceremony on Saturday, 7 September.

In the Competition, four films were awarded:

  • “The Room Next Door” by Pedro Almodovar (Spain), supported by ICAA, received the Golden Lion for Best Film
  • “Vermiglio” by Maura Delpero (Italy, France, Belgium), supported by Mic, CNC and Eurimages, received the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize
  • “Jouer avec le feu” by Delphine Coulin and Muriel Coulin (France), supported by the CNC, received the Coppa Volpi Award for Best Actor to Vincent Lindon.
  • “Leurs Enfants après eux” by Zoran Boukherma and Ludovic Boukherma (France), supported by the CNC, received the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor or Actress to Paul Kircher

In the Orizzonti section, “Anul Nou Care N-A-Fost (The New Year That Never Came)” by Bogdan Mureşanu (Romania, Serbia), supported by the Romanian National Film Center and the Creative Europe – MEDIA programme, received the Orizzonti Award for Best Film.

In the Venice Immersive section, three projects were awarded:

  • “Ito Meikyu” by Boris Labbé (France, Luxembourg), supported by the CNC and Film Fund Luxembourg, received the Venice Immersive Grand Prize.
  • “Oto's Planet” by François Gwenael (Luxembourg, Canada, France), supported by Film Fund Luxembourg and the CNC, received the Venice Immersive Special Jury Prize.
  • “Impulse: playing with Reality” by Barry Gene Murphy and May Abdalla (UK, France), supported by the CNC, received the Venice Immersive Achievement Prize.

In the Giornate degli Autori section, 5 movies were awarded:

  • “Manas” by Marianna Brennand (Brazil, Portugal), supported by ICA, received the GDA Director's Award
  • “Taxi Monamour” by Ciro De Caro (Italy), supported by the MiC, received the People’s Choice Award
  • “Alpha.” by Jan-Willem van Ewijk (The Netherlands, Switzerland, Slovenia), supported by the Netherlands Film Fund, Creative Europe Media, the Federal Office of Culture and the Slovenian Film Centre, received the Label Europa Cinemas award.
  • “Sanatorium Under the Sign of the Hourglass” by the Quay Brothers (UK, Poland, Germany), supported by the BFI, received the Premio Cinema & Arts
  • “Sugar Island” by Johanné Gómez Terrero (Dominican Republic, Spain), supported by ICAA, received the Persona, Lavoro, Ambiente Award. & the Inclusion And Sustainability Edipo Re Award.
